A site zoned for leisure use The peninsula has been allocated in the local plan for a mix of leisure and tourism uses for approximately 13 years. In 1993, the Council gave a 12 month exclusive option to a developer called the Eve Group for those allocated uses but they were unable to convert this to tangible development. Since that time, the Council has dealt with various enquiries relating to leisure and tourism uses, such as budget hotels, which have either not met the Council’s aspirations for the site or have not been financially viable without substantial grant assistance from local government. We believe that the proposals we are putting forward represent an exciting new addition to Weymouth, which will be of long-lasting benefit to visitors and residents alike. This is borne out by the initial interest expressed by national and international hotel operators keen to form part of the Destination: Weymouth success story. |
