Economic impact of Pavilion & Ferry terminal Site development:

Focus on employment

As the largest net exporter of employees of all the districts in Dorset, Weymouth will benefit from much needed jobs within the town, according to The Market Research Group at Bournemouth University’s economic impact study of the Pavilion & Ferry Terminal development.

Initial research indicates more than 400 additional jobs are expected to be generated as a direct result of the retail, restaurant and cafes, hotel and marina elements of the development once complete. This represents a 2.7% increase of jobs within the town. A further 30+ jobs in the locale are expected to be generated from market activity within the development.

In addition, jobs will become available as visitor numbers and expenditure increase. Based on the Dorset Economic Overview 2003, 14% of employment is supported by tourism and 4,131 jobs are related to tourism spend.

There will be a large number of jobs generated by the construction of the development over four years. Site labour could peak around 250-300 personnel with a 75 -100 running average, based on an estimate by Howard Holdings.
